Cervical rotation

To perform the cervical rotation stretch:

  1. Rotate your head as far to the right as possible, making sure not to shrug your shoulders.
  2. Assist the stretch by placing your right hand along the left cheek bone (zygomatic arch) and your left hand around the back of your head.  Gently provide another 1 lb. of force toward the direction of the stretch.
  3. Look backward over your shoulder with your eyes to achieve greater range of motion.
  4. Hold the stretch of 1.5 - 2 seconds and return to the neutral position.

Repeat the above steps for a total of 10 repetitions on the right and 10 repetitions on the left.

It is advisable to perform this stretch in a high-backed chair or with your back to a wall to prevent your shoulders from rotating along with your head.
