Cervical rotation
To perform the cervical rotation stretch:
- Rotate your head as far to the right as possible, making sure not to shrug your shoulders.
- Assist the stretch by placing your right hand along the left cheek bone (zygomatic arch) and your left hand around the back of your head. Gently provide another 1 lb. of force toward the direction of the stretch.
- Look backward over your shoulder with your eyes to achieve greater range of motion.
- Hold the stretch of 1.5 - 2 seconds and return to the neutral position.
Repeat the above steps for a total of 10 repetitions on the right and 10 repetitions on the left.
It is advisable to perform this stretch in a high-backed chair or with your back to a wall to prevent your shoulders from rotating along with your head.
